Why Knowledge Transfer Matters in Agriculture
Transferring knowledge is essential in fields like agriculture. For instance, a farmer adopting pest management techniques from one crop to another can improve sustainability and address challenges posed by changing climates. For instructors, this badge emphasizes the value of problem-solving and innovation, encouraging students to connect learning across disciplines and real-world situations.

What is the Transfer Knowledge Badge? Earning a Transfer Knowledge badge recognizes learners who can connect learning across contexts - from classroom to work, life, and agricultural scenarios.

The Assignment to Earn a Digital Learning Badge Includes:
  1. Reflect on a lesson and identify connections between classroom content and personal, work, or co-curricular experiences.
  2. Learn about knowledge transfer principles through written and/or video resources.
  3. Draft a message to a peer or colleague, sharing how they’ve applied what they learned in a practical context.  Details for implementing this badge can be found in this guide. 
For example, students might share how they used note-taking strategies from a plant science lab to succeed in a greenhouse job or applied weed identification techniques from class to teach a local 4-H club. Alternatively, they might consider experiences they have had while working or volunteering that help them better understand the content they are learning about in a class.

The Broader Goal
This series of badges is intended to help learners focus and reflect on workforce skills that assist those in agriculture and natural resource fields. The assignments and reflective practice activities are designed to assist with identifying problems, analyzing decisions, and applying knowledge in diverse situations. By earning this badge, learners build skills that extend beyond the classroom, preparing them for team-oriented environments and future careers.

AWT4CL 12 Employability Skills—Foundations Badge

Skills like leadership, collaboration and communication are usually described as soft skills, but they should be referred to as durable skills” ( Auger, 2019, para 4 ). Agriculture Peer Group Formation at the Virginia Community College System

by Adam O'Neal -- Based on input from a cohort of agriculture faculty from around Virginia, an Agriculture and Food Systems Peer Group has been constituted by the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) to serve the needs of agriculture program faculty around the Commonwealth of Virginia. Peer groups have existed for other disciplines for some time, but none for this area of study until now. From the shared experiences of the Agriculture Workforce Training for Collaborative Leadership (AWT4CL) cohort members and other agriculture faculty, we understand that collaboration at professional levels has proven challenging. This peer group promises potential benefits to agriculture faculty in unraveling professional challenges and related classroom and teaching concerns.
